Photographs taken illegally by members of the Sonderkommando in 1944, presenting naked women being chased by the SS to the crematoria as well as the burning of the bodies of those murdered in … The Sonderkommando photographs. For many years, the author of the Sonderkommando pictures was not identified. They were credited as anonymous or, by default, assigned to Dawid Szmulewski, even if he mentioned a Greek Jew named Alex. The story of these photos was recorded by Summary and Conclusion Together, as sequence, these 4 photographs offer the viewer or reader, a basic form of understanding of an event that for the most part, is impossible to come to terms with.

Shot by a Greek prisoner, the four photos were smuggled to the Polish Resistance where they were cropped and retouched to make them clearer.

The Sonderkommando photographs are four blurry pictures, taken secretly in August 1944 inside the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. The photographs were taken by a prisoner in Auschwitz II-Birkenau. This was Auschwitz's extermination camp - a place where people were sent to be killed in gas chambers.
